Sunday 17th March – Habitat Management – Merthyr Mawr
13/03/2024This week there is a change to the scheduled task. We’ll be heading back to Merthyr Mawr to help with managing the habitat by removing Birch. Ensuring the habitat is maintained as a sand dune is important as certain flora and fauna species will only flourish in this environment – removing the Birch trees will prevent succession and allow this habitat to thrive. Sunday 10th March – Footpath Maintenance / Drainage Management – Newport Wetlands
06/03/2024This Sunday we’ll be at the Newport Wetlands helping to maintain the footpaths and creating drainage channels. A well maintained footpath is vital as it allows people to enjoy the beautiful reserve whilst preventing potential damage to wildlife habitats. We’ll also be helping to dig drainage channels for a new pond created to benefit the Great crested newt! We broke in the hedge last week and this week we’ll begin pleaching; the art of partially cutting the tree and laying it down horizontally to form a living barrier! All work is subject to a survey prior to the task beginning to ensure no birds are nesting within the hedge.
