Newport Wetlands

ATTENTION‼️ There has been a change of plan for this Sunday’s task! Join CCV Sunday 15th September to help clear Ragwort at the RSPB Newport Wetlands alongside Natural Resources Wales!
The reason for work that we did is that the grasslands are maintained by Natural Resources Wales as wild meadows for the benefit of birds and insects. To best maintain those meadows they need to be cut yearly, for the benefit of the grasses and to remove larger shrub species. If the silage cut from this site is contaminated with ragwort it becomes difficult/impossible for NRW to dispose of. By hand-pulling the ragwort at this time of year, we can be sure the silage cut from the wetlands is acceptable for use with livestock.
*****You can join us by ringing/texting 07450700214*****

NOTE! Do phone the leader or email in advance so we can make sure there’s enough space. Steve Edwards will be leading the task.

PLEASE only RSVP if you are certain you can attend and let the leader know if you cannot make it for whatever reason as seats on the bus are limited and you would be denying another volunteer from coming out on task!

If you are already a member you can access the programme through our website and find out more information about who we are and what we do:

What to do and bring:

• Book with the relevant leader – Seats on the minibus are limited

• No experience necessary – All training is provided

• Outside Cardiff Museum at 9am or outside the warden centre at Forest Farm in Whitchurch at 8:30am

• It is possible to use your own transport and meet on site if easier but please confirm with the leader first

• Wear suitable outdoor clothing, sturdy boots and/or waterproofs

• Bring a packed lunch – We will provide the hot drinks and biscuits.

Hope to see you soon!

Please be aware that plans are subject to change at the discretion of the client.
